The RENEWAL of a Permanent Improvement levy that has been renewed multiple times since 1986. If passed, the levy will be renewed for five more years, from 2026-2031.
Renewals are NOT new taxes. At 1.3 mils, the total cost is only $13 each year for every $100,000 of the county auditor’s market value of your home.
Think of it as just over $1 a month!
In order to support learning and prioritize safety and security, these critical funds pay for expenses related to maintenance, repairs, and renovations.
PI funds help the district maintain eight school buildings for classroom learning. In addition to major renovations and regular repairs such as painting, carpet replacement, and maintenance equipment, this funding also supports safety and security projects. Recent projects include replacing the outdated alarm system at the Preschool, adding secure door access across the district, replacing the bell and clock system at XHS, and installing a back-up generator at Xenia High School.
In an effort to minimize the financial impact on our community, the district also regularly seeks federal and state grant funding, as well as grants from other organizations for specific programs and projects. However, these funds are tightly restricted to those specific projects. Examples of this type of funding are the Safe Schools grant from the State of Ohio to improve building security infrastructure, and the Nationwide Children’s grant to support health and wellness initiatives such as the school-based health center at Warner Middle School.
Bond issues to fund school construction projects were passed for our elementary buildings (2010) and the new Warner Middle School (2021). The district has also received some matching funds from the state to support those projects. However, all funds designated for those capital improvements can ONLY be used for those construction and building projects. They cannot be used to pay for expenses related to other maintenance and repairs.
